Dear ,

Just this morning I sat, coffee in hand and shared with Debby (my wife), that while I love seeing her and Megan more often during the stay-at-home order, I missed seeing my Maranatha family. I miss being at the front door greeting students and parents as they enter. I miss walking out of my office into the middle-school hallway (although, I don’t miss the smell after a long hot day). I miss walking the pre-k hallway during their morning Bible time. I miss having lunch in the cafeteria. I just miss school, but in particular, our community.

With the latest Executive Order issued last Thursday, April 23, we learned on-campus classes will not resume for the rest of the 2019-2020 school year. As I expressed in a video I posted on social media, I was heartbroken we could not finish the year together. At the same time, I respect the order and the magnitude of decisions our Governor is making daily. Another aspect of the order was to make Friday, May 1 and Monday, May 4 available for teachers to prepare for the last month of remote/eLearning.

We endeavor to use that time to collaborate and ideate with each other to ensure the last month of the school year continues to challenge and invigorate our students. We truly believe that remote learning doesn’t have to feel distant. With that in mind, allow me to preview what May will look like.

For Lower School:
  • There will be no classes on Monday, May 4. Again, due to a teacher planning day per the Governor.
  • Fridays will continue to be dedicated for specialists. While these are considered optional, let me encourage you to strongly suggest your student(s) participate. It will enrich their school experience. Please contact your classroom teacher if you need assistance with this.
  • The remaining days in May will have our regularly scheduled classes, with the exception of Memorial Day on May 25, when school is closed.
  • Please read the email from the Lower School Principal, Ms. Deb Larson by clicking here.

For Upper School:
  • There will be no regularly scheduled classes on Friday, May 1. Rather, we will host Zoom Help Sessions/Mandatory Tutoring for students who need some extra time with their teachers.
  • There will be no classes on Monday, May 4. Again, due to a teacher planning day per the Governor.
  • Friday, May 15, we planned to host Experience Maranatha! As you know, this landmark event has been canceled. In lieu of this schedule change, we will have a day dedicated to Zoom Help Sessions/Mandatory Tutoring and no regularly scheduled classes will take place.
  • Friday, May 29 was originally scheduled as a half-day. We will have one last Zoom Help Session day to allow students to complete their work prior to summer break.
  • The remaining instructional days in May will have our regularly scheduled classes, with the exception of Memorial Day on May 25, when school is closed.
  • Please read the email from the Upper School Dean of Academics, Miss Joanna Richter by clicking here.

More information will be forthcoming on our end-of-year events as we finalize plans within the next two weeks. Your patience and grace are appreciated as we make adjustments to these important culminating events in our school year.

We are excited to institute these minor changes to the schedule and believe they will bring a balance between academic exploration and social/emotional health. As we move toward the end of what can be described, hopefully, as a "once-in-a-lifetime" school year, I want to reiterate to our families that we are here for you. As a community, we want to support you in whatever way we can. If you need any help or assistance, please reach out by using the helpline located on our website or by contacting the school directly at 763-488-7900 and follow the prompts.

We’ve Got This, Cuz He’s Got Us.
