Dear ,

Today President Trump declared a national state of emergency and Minnesota's Governor Walz declared a peace time emergency for five days. As you know, the COVID-19 situation nationally and locally remains fluid. The rate of emerging information demands we remain prepared for quick modification of our MCA plan and communications to you. Thank you in advance for your understanding and flexibility. Please review the following carefully.

Breakfast With Brian
This gathering scheduled for Wednesday, March 18 will be canceled.  I look forward to the resumption of this school community event in April.

Pre-Kindergarten Preview

Scheduled for Thursday, March 19, this event will be canceled. Once we have more information, we may reschedule this important event.

School-Wide Pancake Breakfast
This quarter's pancake breakfast which is scheduled for Friday, March 20 is regretably canceled and will not be rescheduled.

As of today, our Track and Field coop with Providence Academy has been postponed  through March 29. The baseball coop with West Lutheran has been suspended from Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 20. The Minnesota State High School League has postponed all spring athletic competition until April 6. Teams can still practice, but scrimmages or games are not allowed.

Last Day of Third Quarter
Friday, March 20 is the last day of the third quarter and is a half-day. Pre-kindergarten through Grade 5 are dismissed at 11:30 a.m. and upper school will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m. Students will be instructed to take all text books, notebooks, and personal items home for spring break. All student cubbies and lockers will need to be completely emptied allowing for a thorough cleaning, this includes locker rooms for both girls and boys. Please send a couple bags for your student to take their supplies and belongings home.

School Closure
As of today, there have not been any reported or quarantined cases of COVID-19 within the Maranatha or Living Word communities. We certainly believe this will continue to be the case. Both the governor and state epidemiologist are not recommending school closures at the present time. Maranatha is completely prepared with e-learning if this were to occur.  Parents should make family contingency plans in the event we do close, since a decision will come with relatively short notice due to the nature of this situation. Please contact the school if you have not set up your Schoology account.

Lastly, I want to share with you John 14:27. "I give you peace, the kind of peace only I can give. It isn't like the peace the world can give, so don't be worried or afraid." In this verse we read and hear Jesus' voice comforting as well as assuring us!

In His service,

Brian Sullivan
Head of School
